(1/29/12) Monty's Catch of the Day - Miike Snow
Posted
1/29/2012 8:25:00 AM

The Swedish electronic band known as Miike Snow will soon be embracing us with a new album in March called Happy to You. Now if you are not familiar with Miike Snow, then there might be a little trouble of explaining what they are all about. They have written and produced pop tracks for the likes of Brittney Spears; however, the music that they keep for themselves is not even in the ballpark of the pop princess' genre. They have a very unique sound that can crossover into electro-pop, indie, and psychedelic. When they perform live, they wear matching clothes with white masks that cover up their identity. It's safe to say that they are just a tad bit weird. But, when they can punch out great tracks like "Animal" and "Silvia", then it's an absolute win and wildly entertaining. This applies to today's catch entitled "Black Tin Box", which ...

(1/22/12) Monty's Catch of the Day - Bear in Heaven

Bear in Heaven is one of those underrated bands that have really taken the alt-rock/electronic fusion of music to another level. They hail from NY, which is the perfect place to master a unique sound that everyone in the indie music scene is buzzing about. The first track I heard from them was "You Do You"; an incredibly sexy track that has an irresistible upbeat energy. After that, I started getting familiar with the remixes that are just as good as the originals in certain cases. It's been 2 years since the release of their breakout album Beast Rest Forth Mouth, and this spring they will be releasing the follow up. I Love You, It's Cool will be released on April 3rd, and today's catch is the first single entitled "The Reflection of You". To go along with the release of the album, the Bear in Heaven official website is ...

(1/15/12) Monty's Catch of the Day - The Weeknd
Posted

Straight out of Canada, The Weeknd exploded onto the scene in 2011 with his beautiful ground-breaking sound. I am talking about the sensual fusion of both Soul/R&B with chilled out electronic (last year I tried to invent the name "soul-tronic", but it looks like that never took off...oh well). This seemed to be a pretty big trend last year with bands like Toro y Moi, Active Child, and James Blake. However, nobody really captured it as genuinely as The Weeknd. Well, he has just released his latest mixtape entitled Echoes of Silence, and it features today's catch called "D.D.". Now, this is a cover of a really popular song in the 80's that was sung by one of the biggest music icons ever. I'm not going to say much more, or give away what the cover is...you are just going to have to listen for yourself. Listen to "D.D." in ...
